Correct loading of pallets is important to ensure goods are shipped safely and aren’t damaged during transit, which can be costly. Here are some top pallet loading tips to follow.

Inspect your pallet

Before you begin loading your pallet, inspect it to be sure it’s clean and not damaged or rotten. Your pallet should be the appropriate size for the goods that you intend to store in it, so match the pallet size to the product size and weight for effective loading.

Stack items by weight

There should always be an order to your stacking process, with the heaviest items placed into the pallet first. If your pallet is top heavy, this could damage those items stacked below and cause distribution problems.

Stack by size

When you’re loading a pallet, try to aim for a uniform, cube shape at the end of the stacking process. Load items together of a similar size or shape, and if this isn’t possible, at least try to centralise the weight of the pallet items as best as possible. Bear in mind that items with edges sticking out may cause the wrapping film to split or tear, so always use the highest quality wrapping materials.

Effective wrapping

Once you’ve stacked your items, they’ll need to be appropriately wrapped. It’s easier, quicker and more efficient to use a pallet wrapping machine for this task, such as those provided by Focus Pallet Wrappers. Paying attention to wrapping your pallet properly using the right machine and materials ensures the items won’t move about or get damaged during transit. They’re also protected from being tampered with or coming into contact with potential contaminants. When you’ve finished wrapping, make sure that it seems secure and all the items are held in place before signing the pallet off for its consignment.
